Ensuring that diverse groups of learners have an equitable access to the content is my primary goal as an educator. I accomplish this by differentiating the means through which students are receiving information and demonstrating mastery. Providing visual representations of mathematics enables certain students to better understand the content. For instance, Desmos activities on the computer allow students to explore graphing in an interactive way. This simultaneously caters to individuals who are more adept to learning through the use of digital tools. Furthermore, I provide students opportunities to showcase their knowledge in a variety of ways. My teaching incorporates frequent writing activities in which students are required to explain make a mathematical claim and provide reasoning that supports their argument. The differentiated instruction that I design always contains possible accommodations and modifications to support individuals with unique learning needs. |
